We describe a procedure that contributes to modify the asymptotic behavior ofkinks in a model described by two real scalar fields. The investigation takesadvantage of a first order formalism based on energy minimization to unveil howto modify the asymptotic profile of kinklike configurations. In particular, weshow that the exponential tails of standard kinklike configurations can besmoothly modified to engender long range, double exponential, half-compact orcompact behavior.
