Serological and cultural methods for the identification of Mycoplasma often lack specificity and may require several days to establish the presence of Mycoplasma. Fluorescent-antibody (FA) techniques are rapid and sensitive and have been used for the identification of Mycoplasma (3). However, the FA procedure has not been described for M. mycoides, the causative agent of contagious bovine pleuropneumonia (CBPP). We have described the use of FA to detect M. mycoides and its antibody in the sera of CBPP-vaccinated and infected cattle.
