We report on the response of a yield stress material, namely a colloidal gelmade of attractive carbon black particles, submitted to large amplitudeoscillatory shear stress (LAOStress). At a constant stress amplitude well belowits apparent yield stress, the gel displays fatigue and progressively turnsfrom an elastic solid to a viscous fluid. The time-resolved analysis of thestrain response, of the Fourier spectrum, and of Lissajous plots allows one todefine two different timescales $\tau_w<\tau_f$ associated with the yieldingand fluidization of the gel. Coupling rheology to ultrasonic imaging furtherleads to a local picture of the LAOStress response in which the gel first failsat the walls at $\tau_w$ and then undergoes a slow heterogeneous fluidizationinvolving solid--fluid coexistence until the whole sample is fluid at $\tau_f$.Spatial heterogeneities are observed in both the gradient and vorticitydirections and suggest a fragmentation of the initially solidlike gel intomacroscopic domains eroded by the surrounding fluidized suspension.
