After the passage of the US National Quantum Initiative Act in December 2018,the National Science Foundation and the Office of Science and Technology Policyassembled an interagency working group and conducted a workshop titled "KeyConcepts for Future Quantum Information Science Learners" that focused onidentifying core concepts for future curricular and educator activities to helppre-college students engage with quantum information science (QIS). Helpingpre-college students learn these key concepts in QIS is an effective approachto introducing them to the Second Quantum Revolution and inspiring them tobecome future contributors in the growing field of quantum information scienceand technology as leaders in areas related to quantum computing, communicationand sensing. This paper is a call to pre-college educators to contemplateincluding QIS concepts into their existing courses at appropriate levels andget involved in the development of curricular materials suitable for theirstudents. Also, research shows that compare and contrast activities can providean effective approach to helping students learn. Therefore, we illustrate apedagogical approach that contrasts the classical and quantum concepts so thateducators could adapt them for their students in their lesson plans to helpthem learn the differences between key concepts in quantum and classicalcontexts.
