Fog events, due to the low visibility, have generated many socioeconomic losses, including human lives. Aircrafts takeoff and landing during fog events are very dangerous. A fog forecast model (FogVIS v1.0) was created for Zumbi dos Palmares Airport (Maceio, Brazil). A tool called FogVIS v1.0 was developed in the C# programming language using the Visual Studio Community software and the visibility was calculated using liquid water content (LWC) and number droplet concentration (Nd). The LWC and Nd were calculated over a bi-dimensional grid (x, y) during the fog episodes with well known equations and meteorological variables by the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) model for the Brazilian Northeast (BNE). NCAR Command Language (NCL) scripts were developed to estimate Nd and LWC with three nesting cells (27, 9, and 3 km) over BNE using WRF model. The PAFOG model (Parameterized FOG) was developed by University of Bonn (Germany) for the radiation fog forecasting. Neither PAFOG nor FogVIS v1.0 models forecasted two events with the visibility of 300 and 600 m. These models detected three fog events in the airport among the five evaluated cases. The new tool, FogVIS v1.0 predicted the visibility of 476, 865 and 748 m when visibility of 450, 600 and 700 m were observed by the observational data. Predicted visibility by the PAFOG model for the same events was 176, 7951 and 202 m, respectively. The results demonstrate the new tool (FogVIS v1.0) forecasted a larger number of fog events among the evaluated cases (60%).
