We analyse the resonance conditions of a long and narrow ribbon of finitelength whether it is conductive or dielectric. This is accomplished by using afull wave approach based on the material independent modes that naturallydiscriminates the role of the geometry and of the material. This methodeffectively allows the design of the material in such a way to obtain thedesired resonances. Eventually, as an example, we design two quasi-onedimensional resonators based on a graphene layer and on a silicon thin film.
