This paper presents stochastic nonlinear Schrodinger equation (NLSE) simulations in studying the characteristics and origin of broadband amplitude noise. The numerical model uses a stochastic NLSE that rigorously includes spontaneous Raman scattering and quantum-limited input pulse shot noise. Results are compared with experimental measurements over a range of input pulse parameters. Quantitative agreement between experiment and simulation is obtained.
