Hantzsch 1,4-dihydropyridines (1,4-DHPs) have shown broad biological activities which include calcium channel blocker (Schaller et al., 2018), antimycobacterial (Lentz et al., 2016), anticonvulsant (Prasanthi et al., 2014) and anti-tubercular (Khoshneviszadeh et al., 2009) activities. According to our recent report, they show anti-cancer activities in HCT116 human colon cancer cell lines (Ahn et al., 2018). We report herein the synthesis and crystal structure of the title compound (Fig. 1). In the title compound, the 1,4-dihydropyridine (C1–C5/N1) ring is twisted slightly from planarity, with a maximum deviation of 0.178 (1) Å at C3 (r.m.s. deviation = 0.113 Å). The dihedral angle formed between the plane of the 1,4-dihydropyridine (C1–C5/N1) and imidazole (C10–C12/N2–N3) rings is 82.9 (6) . One of the carbonyl groups (C13 O3) lies on the same side as the methyl group at C16 with the other carbonyl group (C7 O1) on the opposite side. In the crystal, pairs of N—H O and N—H N hydrogen bonds with graph-set notation R2(14) connect the molecules into chains running along the c-axis direction (Table 1, Fig. 2).
