The title compound, tris-(1,1'-dibutyl-4,4'-bi-pyridine-1,1'-diium) bis-(dimethyl sulfoxide)di-μ 3 -iodido-tetra-μ 2 -iodido-octa-iodido-tetra-lead(II) dimethyl sulfoxide di-solvate, (C 18 H 26 N 2 ) 3 [Pb 4 I 14 (C 2 H 6 OS) 2 ]·2C 2 H 6 OS, belongs to a class of organic-inorganic hybrid materials with novel functionalities. In this compound, C-H⋯O and C-H⋯I hydrogen-bonding inter-actions, π-π inter-actions, other short contacts and Pb octa-hedral chains are present, extending the crystal structure into a three-dimensional supra-molecular network.
