The asymmetric unit of the title salt, [Co(C 20 H 14 N 4 S)(H 2 O) 2 ](NO 3 ) 2 , comprises a [Co(C 20 H 14 N 4 S)(H 2 O) 2 ] 2+ cation and two NO 3  - anions. In the complex, [Co(C 20 H 14 N 4 S)(H 2 O) 2 ] 2+ cation, the tetra-dentate 6,6'-sulfanediylbis(2,2'-bi-pyridine) ligand coordinates to the Co II cation in the equatorial positions, while two water mol-ecules occupy the axial positions, forming a compressed octa-hedral CoN 4 O 2 coordination sphere. The NO 3  - anions are linked to the [Co(C 20 H 14 N 4 S)(H 2 O) 2 ] 2+ cations via O-H⋯O hydrogen bonds, yielding a layered arrangement parallel to (001).
