Discrete-modulated continuous-variable quantum key distribution with homodynedetection is widely recognized for its ease of implementation, efficiency withrespect to error correction, and its compatibility with modern opticalcommunication devices. However, recent studies report that the application ofhomodyne detection obtains poor tolerance to excess noise and insufficienttransmission distance, hence seriously restricting the large-scale deploymentof quantum secure communication networks. In this paper, we propose a homodynedetection protocol using the quadrature phase shift keying technique. Bylimiting information leakage, our proposed protocol enhances excess noisetolerance to a high level. Furthermore, we demonstrate that homodyne detectionperforms better than heterodyne detection in quaternary-modulatedcontinuous-variable quantum key distribution under the untrusted detector noisescenario. The security is analyzed using the tight numerical method againstcollective attacks in the asymptotic regime. Our results imply that the currentprotocol is able to distribute keys in nearly intercity area and thus paves theway for constructing low-cost quantum secure communication networks.
