We experimentally demonstrate two-photon absorption (TPA) with broadbanddown-converted light (squeezed vacuum). Although incoherent and exhibiting thestatistics of a thermal noise, broadband down-converted light can induce TPAwith the same sharp temporal behavior as femtosecond pulses, while exhibitingthe high spectral resolution of the narrowband pump laser. Using pulse-shapingmethods, we coherently control TPA in Rubidium, demonstrating spectral andtemporal resolutions that are 3-5 orders of magnitude below the actualbandwidth and temporal duration of the light itself. Such properties can beexploited in various applications such as spread-spectrum opticalcommunications, tomography and nonlinear microscopy.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Phys. Rev. Let
