We propose a magnetomechanical device that exhibits many properties of alaser. The device is formed by a nanocantilever and dynamically polarizedparamagnetic nuclei of a solid sample in a strong external magnetic field. Thecorresponding quantum oscillator and effective two-level systems are coupled bythe magnetostatic dipole-dipole interaction between a permanent magnet on thecantilever tip and the magnetic moments of the spins, so that the entire systemis effectively described by the Jaynes-Cummings model. We consider thepossibility of observing transient and cw lasing in this system, and show howthese processes can be used to improve the sensitivity of magnetic resonanceforce microscopy.Comment: REVTeX version 4: 4 pages, 2 figures.
