The c-axis optical conductivity and d.c. resistivity are calculated withinthe t-J model assuming that the interlayer hopping is incoherent. Use is madeof numerical results for spectral functions recently obtained with thefinite-temperature Lanczos method for finite two-dimensional systems. In theoptimally doped regime we find an anomalous relaxation rate, suggesting acommon relaxation mechanism for intra- and interlayer transport. At low dopinga pseudo-gap opening in the density of states appears to be responsible for asemimetallic-like behavior of d.c. resistivity.Comment: 4 pages, 4 Postscript figures, submitted to Phys.Rev.Lett, added a  comparisson with in-plane conductivity, rescaled some figure
