The decay of the krypton 5s′[1/2]1(1P1) state in argon has been investigated for several argon densities from the gas to the liquid and for krypton concentrations in the ppm range. The experimental results demonstrate that no quenching of the 1P1 state occurs due to argon interactions even at liquid argon densities. This result is discussed on the basis of the possible quenching mechanisms and the recently calculated Kr∗Ar molecular potentials
