We introduce a method to suppress unwanted transition channels, even withoutknowing their couplings, and achieve perfect population transfer in multistatequantum systems by the application of composite pulse sequences. Unwantedtransition paths may be present due to imperfect light polarization, strayelectromagnetic fields, misalignment of quantization axis, spatialinhomogeneity of trapping fields, off-resonant couplings, etc. Compensation ofsimultaneous deviations in polarization, pulse area, and detuning isdemonstrated. The accuracy, the flexibility and the robustness of thistechnique make it suitable for high-fidelity applications in quantum optics andquantum information processing.
