The production of the excited charmed baryon doublet $\Lambda_c^*$ viafragmentation is studied. An analysis of the subsequent hadronic decays of thedoublet within the framework of heavy hadron chiral perturbation theoryproduces expressions for both the angular distribution of the decay productsand the polarization of the final state heavy baryon in terms of variousnonperturbative fragmentation parameters. Future experimental investigation ofthis system will determine these parameters.
