Quantal diffusion mechanism of nucleon exchange is studied in the centralcollisions of several symmetric heavy-ion collisions in the framework of theStochastic Mean-Field (SMF) approach. Since at bombarding energies below thefusion barrier, di-nuclear structure is maintained, it is possible to describenucleon exchange as a diffusion process familiar from deep-inelasticcollisions. Quantal diffusion coefficients, including memory effects, forproton and neutron exchanges are extracted microscopically employing the SMFapproach. The quantal calculations of neutron and proton variances are comparedwith the semi-classical results.
