Within the two-center shell model parameterization we have defined theoptimal shape which fissioning nuclei attain just before the scission andcalculated the total deformation energy (liquid drop part plus the shellcorrection) as function of the mass asymmetry and elongation at the scissionpoint. The three minima corresponding to mass symmetric and two mass asymmetricpeaks in the mass distribution of fission fragments are found in thedeformation energy at the scission point. The calculated deformation energy isused in quasi-static approximation for the estimation of the total kinetic andexcitation energy of fission fragments and the total number of emitted promptneutrons. The calculated results reproduce rather well the experimental data onthe position of the peaks in the mass distribution of fission fragments, thetotal kinetic and excitation energy of fission fragments. The calculated valueof neutron multiplicity is somewhat larger than experimental results.
