The linear, gapless bandstructure of graphene provides ideal conditions forAuger processes. They are of great importance for fundamental research andtechnological applications, since they qualitatively change the carrierdynamics. Time-, momentum-, and angle-resolved microscopic calculations revealan efficient impact excitation giving rise to a significant multiplication ofoptically excited carriers and a remarkable Coulomb- induced carrier coolingeffect. We present an analytic expression for the carrier multiplicationpredicting ideal conditions for its still missing experimental observation.

Impact of Auger processes on carrier dynamics in graphene
