The conductivity of the two-dimensional Hubbard model is particularlyrelevant for high-temperature superconductors. Vertex corrections are expectedto be important because of strongly momentum dependent self-energies. We usethe Two-Particle Self-Consistent approach that satisfies crucial constraintssuch as the Mermin-Wagner theorem, the Pauli principle and sum rules in orderto reach non-perturbative regimes. This approach is reliable from weak tointermediate coupling. A functional derivative approach ensures that vertexcorrections are included in a way that satisfies the f sum-rule. The two typesof vertex corrections that we find are the antiferromagnetic analogs of theMaki-Thompson and Aslamasov-Larkin contributions of superconductingfluctuations to the conductivity but, contrary to the latter, they includenon-perturbative effects. The resulting analytical expressions must beevaluated numerically. The calculations are impossible unless a number ofadvanced numerical algorithms are used. A maximum entropy approach is speciallydeveloped for analytical continuation of our results. The numerical results arefor nearest neighbor hoppings. In the pseudogap regime induced bytwo-dimensional antiferromagnetic fluctuations, the effect of vertexcorrections is dramatic. Without vertex corrections the resistivity increasesas we enter the pseudogap regime. Adding vertex corrections leads to a drop inresistivity, as observed in some high temperature superconductors. At hightemperature, the resistivity saturates at the Ioffe-Regel limit. At the quantumcritical point and beyond, the resistivity displays both linear and quadratictemperature dependence and there is a correlation between the linear term andthe superconducting transition temperature. A hump is observed in themid-infrared range of the optical conductivity in the presence ofantiferromagnetic fluctuations.
