The frequency correlations of light in complex photonic media are of interestas a tool for characterizing the dynamical aspects of light diffusion. Wedemonstrate here that the frequency correlation shows a pronounced angledependence both in transmission and in reflection geometries. Using a broadbandwhite light supercontinuum, this angle dependence is characterized andexplained theoretically by a combination of propagation effects outside themedium and coherent backscattering. We report a strong dependence of thecoherent backscattering contribution on the scattering strength which cannot beexplained by the diffusion theory. Our results indicate that coherentbackscattering of the frequency correlation forms a sensitive probe for thebreakdown of the diffusive regime near localization.
