Charge density wave systems have been studied formany decades [1]. CDWs and spin density waves, thespin analog, exist in all dimensions. However, enhancedelectron interactions in systems with reduced dimen-sionality increases the susceptibility for CDW forma-tion, also known as a Peierls distortion in one dimen-sion [2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8]. In ideal 1D systems the FStopology determines the susceptibility for CDW forma-tion via electron-phonon coupling [1]. If the FS can benested with one q-vector of a particular phonon mode,the ground state energy can be reduced by electron-phonon coupling resulting in gaps opening at the Fermilevel. Real systems are never perfectly 1D, resulting inimperfect FS nesting with a partially gapped FS andresidual metallic pockets [6, 7, 8]. While a great wealthof information has been learned from CDW systems, mi-croscopic models explaining CDW mechanisms have beenelusive and debated [9, 10, 11, 12]. It has even beenproposed that the idea of FS nesting is insucient toexplain the nesting vectors realized in the family of rareearth tritelluride (RTe
