First-order quantum corrections to the transverse spin-fluctuation propagatorare obtained within a systematic inverse-degeneracy 1/N expansion, whichprovides a spin-rotationally symmetric scheme for including self-energy andvertex corrections while preserving the Goldstone mode. An expression isobtained for the spin-wave stiffness constant including all first-order quantumcorrections, and the dominant contribution is shown to yield a strong reductiondue to a correlation-induced enhancement in the exchange-energy gain upon spintwisting. The quantum reduction factor U/W highlights the subtlety in thecharacteristic competition in a band ferromagnet between interaction U andbandwidth W. Quantum corrections also yield an intrinsic spin-wave dampingmechanism due to coupling between spin and charge fluctuations.Comment: published version, 12 pages, 1 figur
