An optical field around regular polygon metal nanostructures excited bycircularly polarized light can exhibit rotationally displaced intensitydistributions. Although this phenomenon has been recognized, its underlyingmechanisms has not been sufficiently explained. Herein, finite-differencetime-domain simulations and model analyses reveal that the rotationallydisplaced optical intensity distribution can be generated when each of thelinear polarization components that constitute circular polarization excites asuperposition of multiple modes. The proposed model reasonably explains therotationally displaced patterns for a square nanoantenna and otherregular-polygon nanoantennas.
