We report spin filtration operation considering an antiferromagnetic helixsystem, possessing zero net magnetization. Common wisdom suggests that for sucha system, a spin-polarized current is no longer available from a beam ofunpolarized electrons. But, once we apply an electric field perpendicular tothe helix axis, a large separation between up and down spin energy channelstakes place which yields a high degree of spin polarization. Such aprescription has not been reported so far to the best of our concern. Employinga tight-binding framework to illustrate the antiferromagnetic helix, we computespin filtration efficiency by determining spin selective currents usingLandauer-B\"{u}ttiker formalism. Geometrical conformation plays an importantrole in spin channel separation, and here we critically investigate the effectsof short-range and long-range hoppings of electrons in presence of the electricfield. We find that the filtration performance gets improved with increasingthe range of hopping of electrons. Moreover, the phase of spin polarization canbe altered selectively by changing the strength and direction of the electricfield, and also by regulating the physical parameters that describe theantiferromagnetic helix. Finally, we explore the specific role of dephasing, tomake the system more realistic and to make the present communication aself-contained one. Our analysis may provide a new route of gettingconformation-dependent spin polarization possessing longer range hopping ofelectrons, and can be generalized further to different kinds of otherfascinating antiferromagnetic systems.
