Metasurfaces with subwavelength thickness have exhibited unconventionalphenomena in ways that could not be mimicked by traditional materials. Here wereport the analytical design and experimental realizations of acousticmetasurface with hitherto inaccessible functionality of manipulating thereflected waves arbitrarily. By suitably designing the phase shift profilecovering 2 range induced by labyrinthine units, the metasurface can reflectacoustic waves in an unusual yet controllable manner. Anomalous reflection andultrathin planar lens with adjustable focal point were both demonstrated withcarefully designed metasurfaces. Remarkably, the free manipulation of phaseshifts offers great flexibility in the design of non-paraxial or paraxialacoustic self-accelerating beams with arbitrary trajectories. With theextraordinary wave-steering ability, the metasurface should open excitingpossibilities for designing compact acoustic components with versatilepotential and may find a variety of applications ranging from ultrasoundimaging to field caustic engineering.
