Spin-based coherent information processing and encoding utilize theprecession phase of spins in magnetic materials. However, the detection andmanipulation of spin precession phases remain a major challenge for advancedspintronic functionalities. By using simultaneous electrical and opticaldetection, we demonstrate the direct measurement of the precession phase ofPermalloy ferromagnetic resonance driven by the spin-orbit torques fromadjacent heavy metals. The spin Hall angle of the heavy metals can beindependently determined from concurrent electrical and optical signals. Thestroboscopic optical detection also allows spatially measuring localspin-torque parameters and the induced ferromagnetic resonance withcomprehensive amplitude and phase information. Our study offers a route towardsfuture advanced characterizations of spin-torque oscillators, magnoniccircuits, and tunnelling junctions, where measuring the current-induced spindynamics of individual nanomagnets are required.
