Improving the phase resolution of interferometry is crucial forhigh-precision measurements of various physical quantities. Systematic phaseerrors dominate the phase uncertainties in most realistic opticalinterferometers. Here we propose and experimentally demonstrate a weakmeasurement scheme to considerably suppress the phase uncertainties by thedirect amplification of phase shift in optical interferometry. Given an initialultra-small phase shift between orthogonal polarization states, we observe thephase amplification effect with a factor of 388. Our weak measurement schemeprovides a practical approach to significantly improve the interferometricphase resolution, which is favorable for precision measurement applications.
