El Nawawy, Egypt; F. Fernandes, India; Malee Sundhagul, Thailand; E. G. Simmons, U.S.A. (Secretary). 2. Election of Secretary and Treasurer. It was agreed unanimously that V. B. D. Skerman be elected Treasurer and that E. G. Simmons be elected Secretary. 3. Election of new Board members. It was agreed unanimously that D. Claus and R. Donovick be elected members; the remaining two members are to be elected by postal ballot of the Board. 4. Membership: (a) Affiliated. Now that the Standards for Affiliated Members had been accepted, it was agreed that a draft letter be prepared for circulation to culture collections, to take account of the US $10 to $50 fee and of the authority of the Board to waive such fees with a Recommendation that Governing Bodies be encouraged to join as Sustaining Members. It was agreed that the Standards for Affiliated Members originally proposed for service collections should be applied in a liberal spirit by the Executive Board. (b) Sustaining Members. Culture Collections and Ordinary Members should be circulated for possible organizations to approach. The Committee on Publicity might undertake this task. (c) National and Regional Federations, Committees, and other International Organizations. Membership of such organizations was referred to the Liaison Committee for implementation of the General Meeting's agreement on the subject. 5. Committees. It had been agreed at the General Meeting that all Committees would be dissolved a t each Conference and that it was the function of the new Executive Board to consider each Committee and to decide whether to reconstitute any Committee with or without the same membership. The exact details of this operation may require by-laws to be added to the Statutes and these can be discussed by post by the Executive Board. To enable Committee work to continue, immediate decisions were made as follows. (a) Committee on Patent Procedure. Reconstituted with the same membership as follows without prejudice to change of membership by the Committee members themselves: R. Donovick, U.S.A. (Chairman); D. Claus, Federal Republic of Germany; M. Kocur, Czechoslovakia; V. S. Krishnamachar, India; V. B. Kuznetsov, U.S.S.R.; S. Tsuru, Japan. (b) Publicity Officer and Committee. Dr. L. I. Sly had agreed to act as Publicity Officer for the WFCC. Whether a Committee was needed or a Publicity Officer alone was sufficient was left to his discretion, with the understanding that he would inform the Secretary if a Committee was required. (See also Minute 6, Newsletter.) (c) Liaison Committee and Study Group on Information Exchange. These two groups were combined, with E. G. Simmons to continue as Liaison Officer. (d) Postal and Quarantine Regulations. Professor E. G. Simmons will continue to collect information on these regulations. (e) Data Coding. Agreed that the work of this Committee should continue. The EBWFCC appointed as officers: Chairman: K. Komagata, Japan; Secretary: R. R. Colwell, U.S.A.; with a recommendation that the following be the initial members of the Committee: D. Claus, Federal Republic of Germany; H. Furuya, Japan; M. I. Krichevsky, U.S.A.; W. Leveritt, Australia; V. B. D. Skerman, Australia; J. J. S. Snell, United Kingdom. The EBWFCC did not preclude the election of further members to this Committee by the members themselves, and recommended the formation of study groups for each major group of microorganisms to liaise with the relevant international bodies on the Proposals for Data Coding for those microorganisms, official approval of the codes to be determined by such bodies. 6.
