The effects of the poison ofNaja tripudians are probably the same as those ofOphiophagus elaps, Bungarus , Hvdrophidæ, and other poisonous colubrine snakes, whilst that ofDaboia Russellii is similar to that ofEchis carinata , and also of theTrimeresuri , which represent the viperine snakes in India. Just as theNaja may be regarded as among the most virulent of the colubrine, theDaboia is probably as venomous as any of the viperine snakes, it being very deadly; whilst the Crotalidæ are but feebly represented in India by theTrimeresuri .
