The object of the following paper is to enquire what general relations are satisfied by E1 , H1 , the electric and magnetic intensities as measured by a test-charge atP 1 at epocht 1 moving with velocity V1 , all relative to a given observerO , when it is in the presence of a system of moving chargese s (2≼s ≼n ) which at events (Ps ,t s ) have velocities Vs . 2. We begin by generalizing formulae previously obtained for a system of two charges moving in one another’s presence.
