It has been shown in previous papers how X-ray analysis may be applied to determine phase boundaries in equilibrium diagrams. In the present paper an account is given of the application of the same experimental technique to study the change in mean atomic volume with temperature in certain alloys of the copper-zinc system. In the first part of the paper an account is given of the experimental determination of the change in mean atomic volume in alloys quenched from different temperatures; in the second part the β-transformation is discussed. A description of the general method of procedure will be found in the papers referred to above.
