This case comment examines the influence of religion on a case from the Irish High Court in which a pregnant woman was artificially kept alive for 23 days because of doctors' fear of legal consequences if they terminated her somatic support, thereby hastening the death of her unborn child. The case is compared with an English Court of Appeal case involving the lawfulness of an operation to separate conjoined twins, where the twins' parents' religious views were acknowledged, but ultimately ignored, by the court.
