Experimental cattle were 64 yearling steers divided into three different pastures on native range near Cheyenne, Wyo. Twenty-four steers received Ectiban tail tapes, 24 received Ectiban ear tag tapes, and 16 were untreated. The tapes were made of a reinforced adhesive tape and two ampules containing a total of 0.9% technical permethrin in a gauze pad. Tail tapes were modified by the addition of extra adhesive behind the central portion. Tapes wre securely fastened around the shank of an identification ear tag or placed just above the tuft or twist of the tail. Once in place, each ampule was broken. Each animal received one tape.
