A roadside planting of oaks (about 8 m tall) in Cecil Co., Md., was used for insecticide evaluation. Insecticides were applied at 10 gal/tree on 18 May using a power sprayer. A total of 30 trees were sprayed, and 2 trees were left untreated as controls. Foliage from trees was collected at various intervals after treatment. Leaves were placed in 1-qt styrofoam cups, each with 10 healthy gypsy moth larvae collected from another area in Cecil Co. There were four cups of leaves collected from each tree, with two trees per treatment, for a total of 8 cups per treatment. The larvae were newly collected and placed on leaves each of the postspray dates. Larval mortality was recorded after 96 h of feeding on treated foliage.
