Ten standardized potted chrysanthemum plants, containing known numbers of second-instar leafminer larvae, were placed among chrysanthemums being grown for cut flowers in each of two greenhoses located in Orange County, Calif. The control greenhouse received an application of only the carrier solution, VKII, through the PulsFog (Dr. Stahl & Sohn GMBH, & Co., Uberlingen West Germany), whereas the other house received an application of Trigard plus the carrier solution. The applications were made between 6:00 and 6:15 p.m. on 28 Sep. The greenhouses remained tightly closed until 7:00 a.m. the following morning, to allow the fog to settle. At that time, the plants were removed from the greenhouse. Surviving larvae were allowed to emerge from the chrysanthemum leaves and pupate. All pupae were held for adult emergence.
