Four insecticides were evaluated to determine their efficacy in controlling birdcherry oat aphid. Insecticides were applied 8 Oct to hard red winter wheat (earlier tillering stage of growth) grown on the Washington State University, Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center, Prosser, WA. Treatments were applied with a compressed air plot sprayer mounted on a bicycle-wheeled carriage, calibrated to deliver 41 gpa at 40 psi. Temperature at the time of treatment was 52°F. Plots were 5 rows wide (10 in between rows), 20 ft in length, replicated 5 times in a randomized complete block design. Treatments were evaluated on the total aphids present per 6 randomly selected wheat plants from each plot at pretreatment and at several post-treatment intervals.
