In an unreplicated test, the mortality of omnivorous looper (OL) larvae in an avocado grove treated by helicopter with thuricide HPC was compared with OL larvae mortality In an adjacent and comparable untreated grove. Both groves were commercial operations and were located in San Diego County, CA. The application was made on Jul 3, when most 0L were first or second instar. Early instar OL and their damage were readily visible on young terminal growth, so our pre-treatment sample consisted of examining 10, 6-inch-long damaged terminals for larvae. Post-treatment counts were similar except terminals were 18 inches long and had at least 1, 6-inch-long side branch. Pre- and post-treatment counts were made on 12 randomly selected trees in both groves.
