Cattle, Face Fly and Horn Fly Tests with Ear Tags, 1980

Four mixed breed beef herds of cattle in Owen County were treated with either 10% Atroban ear tags or 13.7% Rabon ear tags on May 15. In Fayette County five heards of mixed breed beef herds were treated with either 8% Ectrin ear tags, 13.7% Rabon ear fags, or a 1% Rabon dustbag-1% Ravap backrubber combination treatment on May 20. Cows and calves were tagged with different numbers of ear tags as described in the table below. Cow-calf herds in the general area were used as untreated controls. Flies were monitored weekly by estimating the horn fly population on one side of ten randomly selected cows/herd and face flies were counted on the faces of ten cows and ten calves in each herd. Results are presented as 3 week averages.
