Two herds of ten heifers, with one bull per herd, were tagged with one ear tag per ear on June 3'78. Bulls were removed during the 11th week. One herd was tagged with 8.42% fenvalerate tags and the other with 14.7% tetrachlorvinphos tags. Flies were monitored weekly with the aid of binoculars. Horn fly counts were made by estimating the number on one side of each heifer, whereas the total number of face flies found on the face was counted. The effectiveness of the test was determined by comparing the number of flies on untreated cattle within the same area.
