The effectiveness of various aqueous sprays and commercial boric acidpowderagainst cockroaches was determined in low-Income apartments near Los Angeles. The apartments were about 800 ft* and contained a kitchen,small dining area, living room, bathroom and I or 2 bedrooms. About I.I qt. spray/apartment was applied nearly to runoff in principal cockroach harborage areas from a B&amp;G compression sprayer through the finest fan opening of a Spraying Systems Multeefet no. 800067 nozzle. About 0.75 lbs formulated white boric acid powder or powder dyed blue for safety purposes was applied thoroughly to similar areas with a Getz powder duster. Infestation level before and after treatment was determined with bread-baited traps left in the kitchen of each apartment for a week. Olancha clay in the traps prevented cockroaches from escaping and served as a desiccant. Total numbers of cockroaches caught were analyzed with a Wilcoxon's signed-ranks test.
