A commercial formulation of Bacillusthuringiensis Berliner var. kurstaki (HD-1), Dipel (3.2% Al (16,000 IU/mg)) + 1% molasses aqueous solution was applied as an erial spray to a single block of about 10 A of mature pecan trees of mixed variety near Cordele, Georgia. Treatments were applied with a North American Rockwell Thrush Commander aircraft equipped with a Spray Systems spray system having 44 nozzles with No. 5 Whirljet tips. The aircraft was flown at 120 mi/hr applying approximately 10 gallons of spray per acre. Ten acres in the same pecan orchard (separated from the untreated area by a highway) served as an untreated check. Prior to treatment, populations of fall webworm and walnut caterpillar were fairly evenly distributed throughout the 20 A orchard.
