Control of the Japanese Beetle Larvae on A Golf Course Fairway in Tuscarawas County, Oh, 1992

The study was located on a golf course fairway at Bolivar. Insecticides were applied 26 Aug to plots 2.4 X 31. m arranged in a RCB replicated 4 times. Granular insecticides were applied using a drop spreader and liquids using a C02 sprayer with Teejet XR8006VS nozzles at 2.46 kg/cm2 pressure that delivered a volume of 407 liter/ha. The experimental area was irrigated with approximately 6.4 mm water after all treatments were applied but before sprays had dried on the grass blades. Environmental conditions at time of treatment were: JG:ca. 18/0.1m2, 55% 1st, 45% 2nd instars; turf: level, dry, 1.9 cm height, 50% Kentucky bluegrass, 30% perennial ryegrass, 20% annual bluegrass; thatch: dense, moist, 0.6-1.9 cm; soil: moist, 77°F at 2.54 cm and 75°F at 7.62 cm; weather: sunny, 79°F, 0-8 km/h; water: pH 6.35. Efficacy data taken 6 Oct (41 DAT) were based on the number of live JB larvae in six 17.8 X 17.8 cm diam samples from each plot.
