A laboratory study was conducted to determine if Eucalyptus polybractea oil is repellent to ants. Following 24 h starvation, 6 BA colonies were given 5 g of food (1:1 peanut butter and soybean oil) on a piece of filter paper. Each BA colony had approximately 2000 ants. In 3 of the colonies, 1 ml of pure E. polybractea extract was adsorbed onto the filter paper to form a ring around the bait. The number of ants feeding was noted at five min intervals for 6.5 h.
