A field evaluation of 12 insecticides was conducted at the Red River Research Station, Bossier City, La., to determine the efficacy of the selected materials against plant bugs/fleahoppers on cotton. Cotton was planted 1 May on 1.02-m centers. Experimental plots were 8 rows × 30.5 m and were arranged in a randomized complete block with 4 replications. Insecticides were applied on 19 Jun with a high-clearance sprayer equipped with a CO2 system for spraying small plots. Insecticides were applied in 11.4 liters of finished spray solution/acre at 60 psi with TX-3 hollow-cone nozzles spaced 50.8 cm apart. A 24-h pretreatment count was made on 18 Jun. Posttreatment counts were made at 4 h, 48 h, and 5 d. All counts were made by sweeping each plot (25 sweeps/plot) with a standard sweep net (38.1-cm diam).
