Trials were conducted in a 3-yr-old stand of‘Vernema’ seed alfalfa near Gardena, Walla Walla County, Wash. Treatments of Counter 15 G were applied 18 Apr to 0.01-acre plots with a hand-held Whirlybird seeder in a randomized complete block design with 4 replicates. Plots were scheduled for an irrigation interval within 24 h of application. A standard commercial combination of Furadan + Cygon was applied 20 May with a CO2-powered backpack sprayer with a 4-ft boom calibrated to deliver 27 gal/acre at 30 psi. Each sample consisted of 5 sweeps/plot with a 15-inch-diam sweep net.
