In a partial confinement dairy farm near Guangzhou in the Guangdong province of southern China, 30 non-lactating Holstein dairy animals were treated on 22 May with Ralston Purina's Dual-Gard insecticide impregnated ear tags (1/cow) containing 9.4% chlorpyrifos, 7.2% permethrin which were synergized with 2% piperonyl butoxide. A second herd in a separate enclosed unit was treated on the same date with Fearing Duo-Deckumc ear tags containing 5.02% permethrin which were synergized with 5.46% technical piperonyl butoxide. A third herd was used as an untreated control. Fly xmnts were made on a daily basis at 9:00 a.m. on the 3 separate herds. Animals were maintained in tie stalls during the day but released into exercise yards to spend the night. Anti-bacterial and spray treatments of dichlorvos insecticide were applied to the yards bi-weekly.
