Soil Systemic and Foliar Insect Control in Sunflower, 1984

Plots were established in a growers field near Fosston, Polk County, MN. Plot size was 4 rows by 30 ft long. Treatments were arranged in a randomized complete block design and replicated 4 times. Plant populations were 17,000 per acre. All systemics were applied on 1 Jun at the cotyledon stage and covered lightly with soil. Soil moisture was excellent. Foliars were broadcast on 6 Jul using a hand held CO2 sprayer with 20 gal total material applied per acre at 40 lb psi pressure. Data collected included plant stands, disease incidence (Phoma, Alternaria, Sclerotinia), plant breakage, seed size, defoliation, tunnels/5 plants, and yield. Only defoliation, tunnels/5 plants and yield are reported. Other data were nonsignificant.
