Plots measuring 2 rows (32-inch centers) by 20 ft, with 2 border rows between plots, were arranged in a randomized complete block design with 4 replications. Insecticide treatments were applied on 24 Aug ‘84 when plants were at 30-35% bloom. Hand-operated compressed-air sprayers were used to apply the insecticides in 20 gal of water per acre at 32 psi. Efficacy was evaluated by rating 30 randomly selected heads in each plot for midge damage using a scale of 1-10, based on the % seeds damaged on each panicle. Yields were taken on 18 Oct by cutting and threshing 1 row of each plot.
